Jen fan-squealing over the revelation that JFK was a mutant was so cute.
-
It’s been established that, in the x-men universe, JFK’s mutant ability was a minor form of telepathy with which he could convinced people to do what he wished them to. So basically like professor X but not as strong.
-
As great as the Quicksilver scene in this is, the one in the 3rd movie is not only the best scene in that movie but one of the best scenes in any superhero movies.
-
keep in mind: just because a timeline is changed, that doesn’t mean EVERYTHING happens differently. a lot of the things that happened in the original timeline would still have happened in the changed timeline.
-
for the magneto thing, he controls electromagnetism not just magnetic metal so he can move all metal as well as electromagnetic fields. at least in the comics.
-
in the films i can’t remember him not being able to control a metal, just plastics and polymers.
-
I think it’s important to note that that was suppose to be mistique’s first kill. At the moment she decided not to kill, that changed the entire course of her life, meaning she didn’t become a killer. Also, let’s not forget the butterfly effect, her not taking that shot could definitely change the future, the smallest change on a decision in the past, can have a huge effect in the outcomes of the future
-
Jen, Mystique’s act of mercy didn’t make the world see that mutants are good. It just convinced them that not all mutants are bad. Meaning that mutants became second-class citizens rather than a persecuted minority. At least in the United States.
-
as for Jean, McAvoy Prof X read wolverines mind so he was aware of the events from x1-3 including jean going dark phoenix and Wolverine killing her so he could have made actions to change the timeline. Still a bit all over the place but I feel like thats explained by that scene.
-
The film was a box office and critical success, making $770 million dollars against a $200 million dollar budget and holds 92% on RT, considered to be the best X Men Movie Ever made. Definitely my favorite X men movie of all time. Everyone was so hyped to see Apocalypse bc of this movie only to be left so disappointed smh.
-
For some reason the continuity issues just don’t bother me, and I like Jen’s point of things being open to interpretation. Other than Logan this is easily my favorite x men movie! My opinion but this is probably in my top 15 favorite movies of all time because I just enjoy it so so much! Definitely a guilty pleasure movie of mine
-
I never knew there was another cut of this movie. I honestly prefer the Rogue cut more than the theatrical cut. I do agree with the ending, it should have actually been Stryker that didn’t really make sense. When they pull him out of the river on that metal grate, it almost looks exactly like the one he was on when he was in the tank being experimented on
-
The cure wasn’t permanent. That’s how Rogue and Magneto have their powers back. You can clearly see in the last shot of the Last Stand that Magneto moves that chess piece. So it was already hinted that it wasn’t permanent.
-
At the end of X-Men 3, it actually shows Magnito’s powers returning to him naturally meaning that the cure wasn’t permanent.
-
That was always something that was kinda weird in the theatrical cut, while Mystique’s powers were “what the Sentinels needed to adapt to other mutants”, it was actually a mixture of Rogue and Mystique’s powers that allowed the Sentinels to copy other mutant powers and use them. That’s why you see the Sentinels gaining the powers of Colossus, Iceman, etc after they touch them, but pretty sure they only mention something about that in the Rogue Cut…
-
Here are my theories on a couple of the plot holes Holden mentions at the end…
-
Magneto was shown to wiggle the chess piece at the end of Last Stand which implies that the ant-mutagen cure was only temporary.
-
Professor X is a powerful telepath and can make people see him as his former self, even if his body is technically a different body he is a strong enough telepath to make people see him however he wants. I have no answers for any of the other inconsistencies though.
-
I think it’s always best to just go into X-Men movies thinking: Same characters, different story. And never think to much on how any of it applies to the other films.
-
They do mention Charles “killing” his twin’s consciousness with his powrs while they were still in the womb… It’s a throwaway line so thats probably why you didn’t realize.
-
The mutants are still the enemy but Trask was the head behind the sentinel program and killing him would mean that he was right so they’d go on with the sentinel program but changing that made them rethink things and change the future
-
This came out in 2014, two years after the first Avengers. Because of this, this film always felt like the X-men’s response to the shared cinematic universe concept Marvel was doing at the time. Everyone from all the movies prior “comes together” in this one
-
This day has finally came. This movie is so special to me, I’m so excited to see your reactions.
-
I like James mcavoy talking about what else could explain a bullet curving when he was in Wanted which they learned to curve a bullet.
-
Also, Chris Claremont, the author of the comic this movie is based on, makes a cameo as one of the senators.
-
“The cure” clearly wasn’t powerful enough to permanently erase their mutations, shown by Magneto in the end of The Last Stand, so it makes sense that he and Rogue both have their full powers again. The cure wasn’t tested for long-term durability.
-
To explain Kitty’s new power: it’s a secondary mutation, which often occurs to mutants in the comics. For example, Toad went through a secondary mutation that gave him the ability to breathe fire and Gambit went through a secondary mutation that gave him the power to hypnotize.
-
The director actually did say that it’s a twin brother in the official audio commentary for X-3.
-
As for why Xavier is still in a wheelchair, remember that the new body has never walked since birth. It’ll likely be impossible for him to physically move.
-
I love Jen’s reactions to this movie. She was cracking me up the whole time with her faces and reactions.
-
“I’m waiting for Wolverine”
-
Hurts my jaded X-Men heart.
-
I love the ending for this movie, it is prefection basically
-
Rogue took the cure as well as Megneto, in X-3 they showed how Eric was trying to use his powers on chess figure, and it moved slightly, so this cure is not permament or stronger mutants somehow can overcome it’s effect.
-
And changing the history thingy, Trusk is no longer in charge of anti-mutant weapon program meaning no more super Sentinels. Plus even doe this timeline is new doesnt mean everything happened differently
-
Hugh Hackman said that for this scene where he was shirtless he dehydrated himself for like 2 days so that his skin had less volume and just laid on his muscles. That’s why he looked so ripped.
-
I think the series has good enough explanations for your “continuity errors”. Magneto was already shown getting his powers back at the end of X3, so the “cure” was clearly only temporary. We know Professor X went into the comatose body. It is strongly implied in the movie that it is his twin brother, he talks about that hypothetical scenario earlier in X3. Also even if the body didn’t look like him, he could project an image of himself into those around him to make them see him as himself. Professor X could use Beast’s serum to walk around when he’s older. It would be weird for him to still use it if it took away his powers, but Beast could’ve improved it to allow the Professor to walk when needed and still have powers. Rogue had the white in her hair because the events of X1 still happened in the new timeline. The Professor didn’t need to stop that to save any of his students from dying. It doesn’t take much of a leap in logic to get to these explanations.
-
What I appreciate about this movie is that Beast looks a lot better than he did in First Class 🤣
-
I just want to say that you guy and a very small handful of channels actually get me genuinely excited when a new video gets released. I love the dynamic between you two and it feels like all 3 of us are watching the film
-
OK so I didn’t want to screw this up, so I did some digging…
-
Magneto’s abilities are essentially limitless. He can manipulate all forms of magnetism, summon force fields and shoot electromagnetic pulses that can disable electronic devices. He can assemble complex machinery in seconds and manipulate the iron in blood to take control of people’s actions. He has even shown power over forms of energy on the electromagnetic spectrum like visible light and gamma rays, though he rarely uses these abilities. On top of these gifts Magneto possesses genius level intelligence in multiple technical fields and genetic engineering. He is a brilliant tactician, a natural born leader and, though he rarely demonstrates it, a trained hand-to-hand combatant.
-
Magneto has his powers In the future BC it’s implied by the final scene in last stand with Magneto using his powers to move the chess piece that the “cure” was only temporary or had less of an effect on more powerful mutants. I think it was just a temporary cure as beast stabbed Magneto with like 4 doses so I doubt it was less effective
-
I remember being so emotionally invested in this movie and these characters when this came out. I cried when everyone returned at the end. I think that moment isn’t as impactful when you marathon the franchise and you don’t have all the years in between movies to truly understand how long it’s been since they were gone. Not negative, just a fact.
-
This is actually my favorite X-Men movie, I really like it and I remember lots of other people feeling the same way back in 2014, it seems to get more hate nowadays and I don’t know why. I would put it above like 90% of the MCU movies if I’m being honest.
-
Jen: I liked Rebeeca better then Jennifer. She was alot quieter…..alot more…..
-
Me: Mystique? (Awe of mystery)
-
“Enhanced liberty” put me in tears 😂😂 perfect JFK mutant ability
-
In the Writers' Commentary on “The Last Stand”, they state that the body Charles goes into is his twin brother, who was brain-dead since birth; and their parents paid to keep him alive artificially. It’s not a fan-theory, it’s the writers' own words. Also, in “The Last Stand”, you see Erik’s powers come back at the very end when he makes the chess piece wiggle. The mutant cure was never a one-and-done shot; because when mutants were around the boy whose powers generated the cure, there was a radius of effect. When you were in it, your mutation was suppressed. But when you were out of it, your powers would come back. So even though Erik and Rogue both lost their powers for a time, it was only temporary.
-
Thank you and the people that voted on the poll. The Rogue Cut is SO much better than the original cut. I always respect people’s opinions, but if anyone says the original is better than they are just plain wrong. 😛 Ever since I saw the RC, I am actually unable to watch the theatrical version anymore.
-
I haven’t heard the twin theory. I always thought that even though he’s (professor X) in a new body, he uses his power to project to everyone his familiar appearance. He is powerful enough. Also, as far as the continuity issues, I believe one of the movie’s intents was to overwrite the third X movie. So I think even after everything that happens in this film, the first two X-men movies still happen. In some way. This is of course undone by the existence of the dark phoenix movie that comes later.
-
Agreed, X-men would still be feared/the enemy. But, I don’t believe the future they showed at the end claims they aren’t feared/the enemy. It just means the sentinels that are the end of the mutant do not become a thing because trask does not get to fulfill the idea of them.
-
This is probably my favorite X-Men movie, it’s a toss up between this and X2. I found the story very entertaining and loved the ‘70s aesthetic. Despite some of the continuity issues and inconsistencies, the actors did a very great job especially Michael Fassbender. Him and Sir Ian McKellen will always be magneto in my eyes just like Hugh Jackman is Wolverine. I’m hoping the MCU does a good job with these character’s stories. As always, love the channel.
-
This is one of the best comic book movies in my opinion. Personally, I’ve always had a problem with stories using the Terminator rules for time travel because they just create paradoxes and logical inconsistencies, so you kinda have to not think too hard about this film’s interpretation of time travel and how the flow and change of time between eras work, but if you can reasonably suspend your disbelief, this is a dope film. The performances are great. There’s a ton of interwoven threads between the movies, and there’s a load of dramatic tension. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Peter Dinklage and Nicholas Hoult, and even Jennifer Lawrence (who increasingly phones it in from here on out) are all great. This is probably my favorite titled X-Men movie. There are a lot of flawed movies in this series, but I genuinely believe X2, First Class, DOFP, Logan, Deadpool and DP2 are all genuinely great movies (and I really like a couple of the other ones too).
-
I can give a pass to Jean not going crazy Phoenix in the ending’s new timeline since Charles read Logan’s mind about future events, so maybe it was enough for him to find a better approach
-
Also, the sentinels were teased a little in X-Men 3, and I believe they were set to appear in X2 as well, there’s even concept art of what they’d look like in those films.
-
BTW, I highly recommend Legion. It’s one of the most underrated/underwatched Superhero-related shows. I think it was a bit too smart for its own good, so people didn’t really understand it and lacked the patience for it. But I think it’s incredibly good. The main character is Charles Xavier’s son.
-
Quicksilver is such a scene-stealer. He gets his own scene in (almost) all the main timeline movies from here and they are just vibrant and entertaining
-
Lol I love how the editing is usually just cuts between reactions, but the ones providing information or a reference to another show, movie, etc. are always absolutely hilarious
-
I feel like once theyre done with the X series, they should hit up The Gifted cuz it has “The Portal Girl” aka Blink as well as Warpath’s (aka the Native American dude) brother, Thunderbird. Plus theres alot more ties to the X Men universe 😁
-
The quicksilver scene is Hands Down the coolest, most unique and fun scene in the movie.
-
Jen’s Reaction to the end credits sequence - ‘WHAT?!?’ sums up everyone’s thoughts on X-Men Apocalypse XD
-
This is my favourite X-Men movie ever. It’s just so cool and fun, I absolutely love it. I think they could’ve easily left the movies at just this and everyone would be happy. But no…
-
Haven’t seen the Rogue Cut but some of those scenes looked more interesting than I expected. DoFP is one of my favorite by far. The continuity just doesn’t matter, it’s an issue between all of the sets of movies (original trilogy, Origins, younger cast). I try to think of this one as linking to different versions of the stories we’ve seen.
-
This is my absolute favorite X-Man movie. It took the best of the first trilogy and merged it with the newer movies. I really loved the cast and the characters, loved the action, I loved the story, I liked the premise, so this one really stands out to me as the best of the series.
-
As always, wonderful and enjoyable reaction. As far as, continuity issues when it comes to the MCU, and the DCU, in general, all falls back to the source material medium. Comics. Comics always alter things. Sometimes explaining the variants, or not. People would enjoy this genre more, imo, if they did their best to watch each film or tv show, with an underlying understanding/acceptance of variants. Thus, opening one to simply enjoy the spectacle.
-
I waited so long for this reaction because it’s my absolute favourite and I glad Jen liked it and Holden liked it too! I am also very happy you watched the Rogue Cut!
-
At 14:51 when they say “go bug your sister” they’re talking about Polaris/Lorna Dane, she’s the third child of Magneto that they teased at forever until they confirmed it around like 2002/2003. I had a few friends that asked me the same thing lol
-
14:07 the whole conversation here with no mention of “Onslaught” is just something that I would love to see in the MCU. Since it directly involves Charles and the world of Avengers/X-men/F4 coming together to fight Onslaught. Jen has it right, Professor going bad is EXACTLY what the fandom needs to see.
-
I love this film. It’s so good, especially the Xavier/Magneto moments.
-
Man you guys are great…i love how holden knows everything.. A gen goes in blind.. Im a big fan keep up the good content
-
Holden, I am sooooooo happy that you and Jen went with The Rogue Cut and that you both enjoyed it so much! In the comics, Days of Future Past is probably the second most important story in X-Men lore after The Dark Phoenix Saga and it’s one of the first X-Men stories I read as a kid so it holds a special place in my heart. This movie (either cut) does have it’s issues which you both pointed out, but I would still list this as my favorite X-Men movie of all time (Logan a close second). Anyways, glad you enjoyed this so much and since you had not seen this cut, glad you finally watched it! 🖤
-
As an X-Men fan for almost all of my 41 years, and a collector of X-Men comics and related material for 30 of those years…. this movie is almost perfect. This and X2 are fantastic! First Class is really fun. The first X-Men movie was such a huge moment in, not only the X-Men universe, but comic book movies in general. Age of Apocalypse had a few good moments (very few), but was an absolute insult to the character of Apocalypse. The Last Stand and Dark… I can’t even finish typing that movies title… Both of those films are the worst insult to X-Men fans, and Jean Grey fans (my favorite comic book character), and movie fans. The reason Days is so good, is they got the characters right, the tone right, and essentially everything else. I hope the MCU version on the X-Men does these amazing characters justice, but with Marvel of the last 3 or so years… it’s really hit or miss.
-
It’s a shame the “Rogue Cut” wasn’t the one released in the theaters. It’s definitely an improvement on the theatrical cut.
-
I like Jen’s questions, she genuinely helps me understand these films!!
-
And thank you for not posting a 20-minute review of a movie, this was just right for me.
-
Is there any chance y’all could react to Terriers, Justified, or Bored To Death? Bored and Terriers were both just 2 seasons, so…
-
This is the best X-Men movie and one of the best comic book movies ever made imo.
-
I discovered this version last summer during the pandemic and it was like hitting gold. I love the extra scenes of the original cast plus the inclusion of Rouge! The original xmen Reunion at the end was perfect. This movie came out years too early I think
-
Yes, I do agree that the continuity is a little rough. This is what I remember way back when the film initially released:
-
The continuity in this film was a bit all over the place, that much is clear. Part of me believes that there had to have been something, like an alternate timeline, for some of the continuity to not make sense (or the writers missed some details for the sake of story, like in First Class where Xavier became paralyzed at a younger age, as opposed to the opening scene in The Last Stand. That has yet to be cleared up). This film served to reboot the franchise (First Class was never a reboot, only a prequel and start to a prequel series) to correct what had happened during The Last Stand and Origins and pretend like those films never existed canonically.
-
You know you’re gonna be watching a film series for a while when Holden has to think about how many movies there are
-
Its so weird how this new trilogy mimics the first one so much. The first movie is flawed but throws a ton of concepts some which are kept and expanded upon and some which are discarded but overall an enjoyable experience.
-
The second movie is just a really great superhero movie, takes what the first one did well and just turns the characters and interactions between them to 11, expands on concepts and improves designs immensly
-
Just a note on why changing “one event” would have such large consequences– the original event was a simple one man assassination at the treaty signing, none of the other events of this movie happened. Changing it from a lone mutant assassination to this insane spectacle with the stadium, huge battle, etc. would definitely have changed public opinion a lot differently. I will agree though that it’s hard to imagine it turning out
-
17:32 i searched up what powers jkf had in marvel/xmen universe and it says he had telepathy ( mind control ) which i think is very interesting.
-
If i could be a mutant from this film it would easily be quicksilver, his powers are a cheatcode to life 🤣
-
I actually think the way they handled the plot (timeline) in this one is smart. Might not be the best thing but I love how they basically rebooted the franchise, also made sense out of it, within their own movie so that way the original three is still canon to this story
-
I love how almost every video you guys do, when Holden makes a certain comment or innuendo that leads Jen to say, “Holden Thomas Hardman!” 😂
-
This is my absolute favorite in the Xmen franchise. So happy to see your reaction 😊
-
It just occurred to me that the Dark Phoenix events could have been prevented because Charles looked into Logan’s future and saw those events. So maybe he was extra cautious and was able to set a different trajectory. Also, Jean wouldn’t have sacrificed herself if the events with Stryker were never changed. So maybe the Mystique tease at the end was an attempt to explain the difference there.
-
Magneto is by far my favorite Marvel character of all time, period. Both performances of the character were played to perfection! This film is a masterpiece, loved the reaction.
-
Can we get super cut of every time Jen says “HOLDEN THOMAS HARDMAN!”
-
Wolverine has always been the main character in this movies for me lol, I love this one a lot and just seeing the young version of the characters again is great, Micheal Fasbender does a great job as a young Magneto
-
The movie was a box office and critical success, making $770 million dollars against a $200 million dollar budget. It holds 92% on RT and it’s considered to be the best X-Men Movie Ever Made.
-
One thing I appreciate from this movie is how they (and yes I get that they all come back in the end anyway. But,) mercilessly and graphically slaughtered the old cast characters. The ones that we’ve seen for years and come to love. Just the shock factor of how their deaths were portrayed and the shear number of them that were killed in such quick succession.
-
When I first saw this movie, I somehow already knew that Hank made a serum to suppress the Professor’s power, but Jen thinking the Professor just went upstairs to shoot heroin is absolutely hilarious
-
I’m guessing when Charles was older and still walking, that he found a new serum which allowed him to walk and still have his powers but side affects were it caused him to age faster and go bald.
-
Everything before 1973 still happens which means parts of origins wolverine still happens from Logan killing his father up until him fighting in Vietnam. X men first class still happens
-
Unfortunately, I’ve always felt like each X-Men movie essentially takes place in its own timeline. The X-Men movies essentially ignore their own continuity. I enjoy almost all of the X-Men films, but I’ve felt that looking at them as separate universes makes it easier to digest them.
-
I love this movie it’s to me the best X-MEN film made by fox because everything is firing on all cylinders the actors are amazing the writing is fantastic the effects are incredible the heroes and villains incredible the Quicksilver stuff was and is absolutely phenomenal I remember walking out of theatres and going home thinking about the movie happy and satisfied that finally the X-Men movies were amazing again I also have to say Evan Peter’s as Quicksilver stole the show and blew my mind with his performance and how well the film uses his character such a amazing edition to the X-Men lineup I remember when the first promotional image of him on the cover of empire people were upset at how cheesy his character looked but when the film actually everyone had a complete 180 opinion change and loved him as the character I hope his character actually comes into the mcu properly as the one from the X-Men franchise and not Ralph Bohner
-
actually is not a theory
-
there are already 2 Mutant-related movies in MCU, I don’t remember if Phase 4 or Phase 5 or undefined:
-
-“Third Deadpool Movie”
-
-“Unnamed Mutant Movie”
-
The quicksilver scene is still my favorite from this movie, this one is defiantly my favorite X-men movie by far
-
As far as continuity issues, I make it easier to accept by telling myself that comics change over time. Pietro and Wanda were mutants, now they’re not, for example. So using that logic, it makes these films easier to enjoy without tearing them apart
-
Jen: I like the idea of going back to the past to change the future. You can do so much with that material
-
Holden: I Agree
-
*Back to the Future flashbacks start happening
-
Days of Future Past is possibly my favorite Xmen film in the entire franchise. However, it does make the audience really have to fill in gaps about the way the plot is unfolding. You def have to use your imagination a bit and let’s not even talk about the fact that the whole concept of resetting the timeline is sort of a big f*** you to the audience lol I still really enjoy this film. The wardrobe, the action, the effects, the time travel aspect etc. are all done really well IMO.
-
“Professor goes bad” was a storyline in the comics. It was the Onslaught story where his subconscious was letting loose and causing havok without him even knowing.
-
One thing of Jean and Scott being back, was that Professor X saw what happens in Logan’s mind. A far off theory could be that Professor prevents those events. Just My theory.
-
After watching this reaction I’ve begun reanalyzing the movies plot and it seems like Rogue and not Mystique would be a better choice as the source of the Sentinels ability to steal the mutant’s powers. Mystique can imitate a person’s look but not their power. In the first X-Men she imitates Wolverine down to his claws but they’re not made of Adamantium. And wouldn’t Magneto have used her instead of Rogue to power his machine if she could really imitate powers? It would have been simpler than pursuing Rogue like he did. Now that’s MY “Rogue” cut… :-)
-
love this film… it solves all the continuity problems of the previous films… and THAT MOMENT WHEN PROF X REALIZES IT’S THE LOGAN OF HIS PAST returning is my favorite scene in any of the X films…. re-watch that scene without talking to really appreciate it… it’s a very powerful moment..
-
Both Quicksilver actors are in the movie Kick Ass. Please have Jen react to that if she hasn’t seen it already. I think she’s love Hitgirl.
-
I really love movies/games that deal with conspiracies like that. Jfk was killed because he was a mutant (in the xmen universe). Like assassins creed 2 when you do the glyphs, you see portraits of famous people with Pieces of Eden (Ulysses Grant had a Piece for example). Or like how in AC Valhalla they took a real thing (Voynich Manuscript) and twisted it a little so it fits into AC lore (its Isu writing in game)
-
you gotta keep the butterfly effect in mind when dealing with movies like this. to put into prospective, think about a million random choice you make that lead you to where you are right now. change a single one of them and who knows where you would be. it’s a very interesting concept and kinda gives the studio a bit of leeway for creativity there at the end in my opinion.
-
22:12 about Magneto “He’s so freaking powerful”
-
well, that’s an Omega Level Mutant for you😉
-
I had the same reaction and assumption when I first saw Charles tying his arm and pulling out a needle. I was like “Whoa! Whoa! WTF?!” 😂
-
I wonder if they going talk about the event of X-Men Days of future Past in Dr Strange multiverse of Madness later this year because of the Time traveling issue
-
Magneto getting his powers back in this movie is explained in X-men 3. In the final scene Magneto moves the chess piece implying that the cure was already beginning to wear off on him. That’s why characters like Magneto and Rogue were back to full power in Days of Future Past. The “cure” was obviously just temporary and the mutant gene could combat it and overcome it.
-
If you both remember, young professor Xavior saw all of Logan’s memories before he connected with the elder professor Xavior. With that fore knowledge he could avoid all of the events of X-Men 1-3, and Mystique not becoming a killer, also drastically changed the timeline. Forgetting or missing that one scene leaves people to wonder how the future changed, when it is self explained.
-
This is my #2 of them all, unfortunately it’s only downhill from this point. Thankfully when they’re in the MCU we won’t have to worry about these continuity problems anymore lol
-
I really didn’t understand why they needed an extra moment after Mystique stopped Magneto from killing Trask & Co., if she still wanted Trask dead why would she stop Magneto to begin with…Would have made more sense for the scene between her and Charles to happen first, she stops herself, then Magneto tries to kill them making it so she has to stop him (maybe even sacrificing herself in the process since she wasn’t really into the movies around that point) and, in the process, changing the future by stopping him.
-
Holden: I want a little time alone with the Beast
-
Jen: Holden Thomas Hardman!!
-
I already had the DoFP Blu-ray set when I bought my Rogue cut DVD just to get the digital copy for my collection. Glad you guys like it. 😅
-
btw, Storm didn’t show up a lot, in the future, because Halle Berry was pregnant when filming
-
that had her get a very small role and they had to deal with her mommy belly to not show up
-
If you hadn’t been interrupting every 5 minutes to call a scene a mistake there’s zero chance Jen would be worried about someone being technically too young or not in that place at that time
-
I think you can explain MOST of the continuity issues by delving into how the “mind meld” with his future self impacts 70s Xavier moving forward.
-
4:00 i think he can manipulate any metal when you look the materials he manipulated in the movies… Fe is the easiest to manipulate for him… He manipulated bronze/brass, steel, stainless steel, Titan, Aluminium etc.
-
THE BEST X-MEN MOVIE! You know how you can tell? Jen and Holden have a 20 min post-discussion! 💙💙
-
I started watching your channel with the first X-Men watch through. I think this is one of the better ones!
-
I was always under the impression Magneto could move all metals… the magnetism part was a nickname, at least until he shifted the magnetic poles of the planet in comics. I could be wrong about the all metals bit though…
-
When Jen said that she would want to be Mystique, I couldn’t believe Holden didn’t suggest a cos-play 😁
-
You guys should’ve watched The Wolverine first, because it’s pretty much the bridge between this one and The Last Stand (and also shows how all those loose ends from the latter that Holden mention were actually addressed).
-
2:49 “I don’t remember this, this might’ve been cut from the theatrical” got me dying out here
-
Holden and Jenn, you’re underestimating how much was changed from the X-trilogy timeline by the events of Days of Future Past. Not only were the Sentinels never created but the future of Logan was completely changed. He’s in a different place with different people. That could have immense ripple effects. Also, Mystique did not kill Trask so her entire future is altered. So, every change of her future can affect the time line. Maybe she never goes back with Magneto to participate in the X-trilogy. Then the X-trilogy never happens. Jean was all in red in the new future to indicate that she IS the Phoenix/ has control over it.

Silver, copper, and gold DO ABSOLUTELY respond to magnetism. They are diamagnetic, which means repulsed by instead of attracted to. So even by “real life physics” of how magnets work, Magneto would still be able to control these metals. If he’s manipulating a whole field of magnetic energy he should be able to move even more. At any given point it comes down to who’s writing the character, but silver and gold would still count, even for the overly pedantic rule-hounds who don’t know as much as they think they do.
-
Magneto had a third daughter Polaris, a Magneto Jr., but not by the same mother of Wanda and QS. That scene with go play with your sister sounds like it came from a stepmother or foster parent. Two fantastic characters ruined by Hollywood because now QS is dead and Polaris is likely never to exist.
-
I’ve got to give props to you Holden, your videos have come such a long way. Your editing skills have just been improving so rapidly recently and I love it. Keep up the great work.
-
I’ve never seen the Rogue cut, just heard how it’s the better one but just from these clips alone, I can tell it elavates the movie so much. Definitely need to see it in full sometime.
-
That enhanced liberty joke about jfk made me laugh really hard lol
-
For the franchise to cast 4 different actors to play Charles and Eric and hit 4 home runs with 4 amazing performances is really incredible
-
YES!!! I love the rogue cut. It’s way better then the theatrical version
-
not sure if they changed it later on, but I remember in the comics he became so powerful that he could affect the iron in the blood on people, but yea it is not just magnetic metals
-
It would
-
be great to hear Jen’s take on Logan now that she has more context from the X films.
-
It worries me about how Holden was thinking about what powers he wanted and then immediately thought about the damage that could be done if he went bad….Anyone else suspect Holden is Secretly a super villain?
-
This is going to sound strange but I’ve been watching Terminator 1 & 2, even the video game, Terminator Resistance, and when you guys mentioned it I was like, yay!! That should your next movie series! 😃 5:12
-
Magneto’s powers did reappear at the end of Last Stand, if only in a minimal capacity. One could assume that they slowly came back.
-
ALSO: JFK’s mutant power was seducing starlets then having them offed.
-
So going forward with the X-Men in the MCU they definitely keep Evan Peters recast as Quicksilver since he was much better than the other Pietro. Hopefully in Multiverse of Madness it will have Wanda find a timeline where she is a mutant and the daughter of Magneto
-
Xavier having a twin brother is actually mentioned in the Director’s Commentary for The Last Stand. It plays off a comic story line where he had an evil twin sister.
-
The “Prof. X goes bad” story did happen! He turned into a massively powerful villain that took almost every superhero at the time to defeat, and still cost the world most of the non-mutant heroes like the Avengers and Fantastic Four.
-
Best x men imo
-
It’s really not that complicated bro. Magneto being able to move the chess piece at the end of X3 proves the “cure” was only temporary. Rogue having her powers in this movie further proves this. You should also watch The Wolverine lol. The post credit scene is that movie helps explain some stuff in this one.
-
I’d love to see Jens reaction to the Terminator continuity and timeline 😂
-
19:51 is actually Bryan Singer (Director) with a small cameo (the man with the hand cam) DoFP is definately my fav X-Men movie. Even tho there are some flaws it´s by far the best imho.
-
What I like about these movies…turns out Magneto was right the whole time haha.
-
I watched this movie a few months for the 1st time and I was shocked on how good it was
-
When does the Daredevil season 2 episode 2 Video get released?
-
Because im confused because i thought the Videos come on monday and friday
-
Can someone pls clarify this? Now only 1 vid per Week on monday or?
-
Magneto stops ‘lead’ bullets often enough that he can’t be considered as just being able to control magnetic metal
-
The Sentinels in this movie are way scarier and deadlier than in the comics. This movie is one of the few times when they actually improve upon something in the comics. In the comics, the Sentinels were often rather goofy and too easily taken down. Heck, there was one time in the comics where a Sentinel simply dropped dead because a random beam of light overloaded its sensors. The only times the comics made a Sentinel intimidating is when they created a super Sentinel like Bastion.
-
The thing about the brain dead guy being his twin is not a fan theory. It’s cannon. He took the place of Cassandra Nova in the comics, who was conceived without a body, Cassandra improvised one by copying Xavier’s DNA to make her own body, effectively becoming his twin sister.
-
Going back and rewatching this and rewatching Logan, the whole thing makes a little more sense if you consider the MCU multiverse theory. The sentinel future is still out there in the multiverse, and in that future, it looks like Logan no longer had a future body to go back to, so I’m thinking that his mind defaulted to the future of the body that his mind was last inhabiting. Just a theory.
-
The tv show Legion on FX. I cannot recommend this enough. Jen suggested she would like to see something about a high level psychic mutant that wasn’t all good, this is the show. 3 seasons of absolutely beautiful chaos, visually stunning, brilliant writing/directing ( Noah Hawley “Fargo”).
-
Dan Stevens as lead portraying a character from the comics believed to be Charles Xavier and Moira McTaggerts child. Please react to this show but it is a must watch for any fan of Marvel content!
-
Killing Trask supposedly happened in the original timeline which led to X1, 2, and 3, and then later the depressing future of DOFP. Since she didn’t kill Trask, all these ripple effects changed the events of those four movies somewhat. Holden and Jen were too caught up in needing to see what changed instead of just accepting that some things changed, some didn’t. And yes, there are continuity errors. For crying out loud, there are literally two Wade Wilson/Deadpools in the same universe. You just have to roll with it when it comes to these movies, because Fox didn’t know what they were doing half of the time. If Bryan Singer, garbage human being that he is aside, had just handled the whole franchise there probably wouldn’t even be any problems (even though he did direct Apocalypse. Whoops!) It was basically Fox saying this:
-
It’s been established even in this movie that Prof X can project his self into people’s heads and when he does he is almost always walking. So that explains the wolverine movie where he is also walking.
-
She should have watched The Wolverine first, as it had a setup to Days of Future Past (unless she did and these are being released out of order), but THANK YOU for watching the Rogue Cut!! And I’ll say again, watch the R-rated Extended Cut of The Wolverine, whenever you do watch it ;-]
-
Edit: aaaaand just got to the part where Holden mentions that Jen did see the other Wolverine movies, so… great! Nothing to worry about ;-]
-
I have to admit, as a huge fan of Kitty Pryde in the comics, seeing her demoted from the main character of the story to a plot device in the theatrical version sucked, but what sucks even more is she has even that role yanked away from her in this version.
-
I’m waiting for the “Holden Thomas hardman” line every reaction like how Jen was looking for Stan Lee 😂
-
31:58 Didn’t the creators put an explanation into the Wolverine movie (after credits scene) (I mean the one in Japan) I remember something there.
-
I think the problem is, that the writers didn’t knew all the movies or that they didn’t pay a close attention to it.
-
In the Wolverine movie (the first one ) when Prof X was walking it was explained that it happened in Scott’s mind. Not really as him just as a thought.
-
Idk if it felt as big especially for Jen but for ppl watching these movies as they were coming out it was a REAL BIG holy shit moment when we see Scott(James Marsden) and Jean(Famke Janssen) at the end because it had been almost 10 years since last stand so it was a big moment
-
The timeline matches at the end and they save SCOTT and JEAN because Charles read Logans mind remember, and he saw Jean dying, so he changed the little bits that counted in HIS future to save the people he loved. END OF STORY. That’s why everyone is alive cause Charles saved them with LOGAN’s memories.
-
To my knowledge X 1 and 2 happened, but X 3 and xmen origins wolverine did not happen. I like to think Phoenix took over at one point, but they were able to get rid of it without killing her. Or she has control. I’d like to see a continuation of this into the mcu just to see what Feige can do.
-
In the comics his power was limited to magnetism. So no magnetic properties, he has no effect. One way to get past that with the silver coin would be most coins were never ‘pure’ one metal. So there could have been trace amounts of other metals to work for him.
-
I love how in the thumbnail Holden is trying to do like a serious superhero pose and Jen just looks happy lol
-
I think what dramatically changes the future is Charles looking inside Logan’s head in order to communicate with his future self. When he sees all of Logan’s pain, all at once, he’s seeing all the things that will go wrong, particularly during the previous movies, and that leaves him with a lot of knowledge of future events and what he needs to avoid, who he needs to save, etc.
-
In the moment where Trask has his sentinel program denied, both actors in that dialog were from Elf (Peter Dinklage and the white haired man who played the boss at Greenway)
-
The best way to digest the X-MEN timeline going forward is, First Class and DoFP are primary canon now. The only people who remember the previous trilogy are Logan and anyone who can touch his mind to see it, which would at least be Professor X. Bryan Singer stated that as far as he’s concerned, events from the first movie mostly still happen in the new timeline with similar outcomes.
-
Holden…In The Last Stand they show Magneto didn’t really lose his powers with the tease of him moving the chess piece….what are you on about at 31:38?
-
The issues you are having are that despite the fact this is a really good X-Men movie, it relies on plot elements that were bungled in previous films. Some of these are ideas lifted from the comics that were used as inspiration but never explained or shown. Some of these are issues cause by stupid movie reasons that were given to explain things from the comics that didn’t need explanation. Rogue’s white hair only has to do with Magneto’s machine in the movie. It was naturally part of her mutation and appearance in the comics. As always, the problem with this franchise is no plan. This is probably the best X-Men movie but that Mystique disguised as Styker is straight up stupid.
-
They did explain how Eric got his powers back. The “cure” was temporarily not permitted. That’s why Rouge had hers back.
-
edit: in X3 when they walked up to the boy (the cure) they lose their power temporarily! It’s not that hard to understand.
-
This movie actually came out a year before Age of Ultron, and about the same time as Winter Soldier. So Quicksilver was introduced in this movie, and simultaneously in the post credit scene of Winter Soldier along with Scarlet Witch.
-
Jen, you really should wait for Holden to finish his sentence first. Wait for your turn. Holden always do that for you.
-
Seeing Holden has to speed up so he can finish before gets interrupted again and again is very frustrating.
-
I’m not remembering all the details of the comics “Days of Future Past” but I seem to recall it actually involved Kitty Pryde jumping back in time. But if they had stayed true to that from the comics then the movie couldn’t have been as centered on Wolverine as it is.
-
“Imagine if they were metal” hints at Fatal Attractions, when Magneto fought Wolverine and tore out all the adamamtium in his body all at once.
-
In case you wanted to know, I did the math as best as I could to find out how much Magneto lifted in The Last Stand. With the Golden Gate Bridge weighing about 894,500 tons, and the average car weighing about 3,300 pounds, plus the fact that the Bridge can hold about 24,000 in an hour and you divide that by two because it takes half an hour to cross, approximately 12,000 are on it at a time. So, 12,000 x the 3,300 average weight equals 19,800 tons. Add that to the weight of the Bridge, and you get 914,300 tons. That means, Magneto in X-Men: The Last Stand carried about one billion, eight hundred twenty eight million, six hundered thousand pounds in the bridge scene. 1,828,600,000 Lbs. Wow, that was a lot of math.
-
gotta jump back to “My Friend Watches: The Wolverine” to get Jen’s reaction to the post-credits scene/lead-in to this movie.
-
gotta jump back to “My Friend Watches: The Wolverine” to get Jen’s reaction to the post-credits scene/lead-in to this movie.
-
Also the general acknowlegdement from xmen movie fans is that DOFP totally erased; origins, xmen1-3.. but some events from the original movie still happened in a completely different way .. as seen in xmen apocalypse.
-
I just remembered Mystique and Rogue had a mother-daughter relationship for a while in the 90s cartoon :D And Rogue having a character in her head that she had to imprison. Storm’s claustrophobia… Mr. Sinister… So many cool storylines…
-
You know what? There are so many good things about the 90s cartoon, If MCU Xmen is at least a little similar to that, I’d be sooo happy.
-
i completely stopped watching regular tv….you are always one of the highlights…thank you cause normally i think just reacting to what others have done doesnt create anything new. thats' not the case with you and that’s why you deserve way more subs imo
-
I don’t think we see Wolverine’s claws in the new future, so for all we know he doesn’t have adamantium because Mystique took him. The events of Logan can easily be a different timeline, especially since it’s more following his solo movies than anything.
-
If you ever looked into Chaos theory involving time travel, it suggests that “yes” the time-line can be changed but fixed points in time will still occur. So the things you are all questioning and stating there are continuity issues, Chaos theory solves most of those raised issues. Plus the following sequels explains how the new time-line unfolds.
-
I too love movies go back to the past to fix some in the future.
-
Along those lines you should give Frequency a watch. Deals with that premise in a unique and fun way. Jim Caviezel and Dennis Quaid. Good movie for sure.
-
I still like First Class better, I really liked the Quicksilver scene but otherwise really didn’t like this one. I do enjoy hearing others takes and why I watched your review on it. For me its time travel, I really just dislike the concept in general as it really cheapens any consequences or choices that characters make in movies as things can just be undone. Deaths of characters should feel heavy and make you feel something if that actor/script was well written or portrayed. Avengers Endgame for instance as much as I dislike time travel.. did have Black Widow/Gamora/Vision/Ironman stay dead and could actually have a feeling of loss. This made the Hawkeye/Blackwidow sacrifice so powerful. X-men you have none of that so the stakes never feel real.
-
The events of this movie change the entire timeline of the original Xmen because mutants become public knowledge way earlier in a very dramatic fashion; look at what Magento did. So the future Wolverine went back to was not the original one where Jeane died in Magneto’s war against the government because that never happened, he just had the ultimate confrontation with the government while he was young and caused an entirely different and apparently better future to play out which is what Wolverine goes back to.
-
In the comic book story it was Kitty that goes back to prevent Senator Kelly from being murdered. In later stories he becomes an ally of X-Men when they save his wife(if I recall correctly). The Comic story was more concise and powerful. Kitty was sent back during a last stand in the Baxter Building where all of the x-men died.
-
What’s worse with the continuation of the timeline is watching Logan after this. The future they changed is probably better than the Logan future as they found a way to wipe out the Mutant Gene completely by putting it in food.
-
A ton to unpack in this one. Y’all talked about a lot of stuff in this one after. Love how y’all analyze everything at the end.
-
The only question of continuity that might be able to be somewhat explained is how they get their powers back after “the cure” at the end of X3. It wasn’t really a cure, but more like a treatment. Similar to how Beast and Prof. X would inject themselves every so often to be able to blend in and walk. “The cure” should have been a continuous treatment for the rest of their lives for it to suppress their powers. The cure didn’t make them human by changing their DNA, it just kept them from using their powers like the little mutant kid when they were near him. Once they left the area where he was at, they got their powers back. That’s why after some undisclosed amount of time after the events at Rykers Island, you can see Magneto subtly move the chess piece. He was already getting his powers back.
-
I just wanted to say I love that u drop these one after another so quickly!
-
I don’t know how often they use it in the comics, but in the real world, non-magnetic metals can still be moved by rapidly alternating magnetic fields which induce eddy currents in the metal. And then there is diamagnetism which affects almost all materials, metal or not. It’s a very weak repulsion to magnetic fields and is how in real life experiments scientists have made tiny frogs levitate from the water, salts, etc. of the frog’s body being repelled by the magnets. But it takes a tremendous amount of magnetism to do this as diamagnetism is millions of times weaker than regular ferromagnetism.
-
Magneto got his powers back at the end of X-Men 3. It’s the last scene of the movie with him playing chess in the park and he makes the chess piece move.
-
The interviews during the release of these batch of X-men movies are great. In the UK on Graham Norton, There is one with Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender and James Mcavoy, really funny
-
In the comics, the character who facilitates the time travel is Rachel Summers, Scott and Jean’s daughter. Since, both Jean and Scott die early in the films they just added a secondary mutation to Kitty. I don’t mind it. It made the cost of casting Ellen/Elliott Page worth it.
-
End credits of X3 shows Magneto getting his powers back. The “cure” wasn’t permanent.
-
in x-3 i think to remember there was a scene where magneto tried to move something metallic and just when he moved it a tiny bit the movie ended
-
so he never really lost them fully, they slowly “grew” back, maybe it was an extended version? was a long time ago
-
Halle Berry was limited in what she could do for this film due to being pregnant at the time. I always thought it felt a little sinister that they killed her off by stabbing her through the abdomen.
-
“Little trumpet fanfare sounded like The Incredibles”
-
The Iconic X-Men Animated Series theme: Am I a fucking joke to you?!
-
I love this movie so much no hate on the theatrical cut but just the way they intertwine the scene with Mckellen and Fassbender with one Magneto working with the X-men and one working against them was awesome. And Stewart bestowing his hope for humanity on a struggling McAvoy was just brilliant. They did a great job combining new and old cast, this is one of the many reasons why this will always be my favorite X-men movie
-
“Charles why did you decide to help?”
-
“I saw the future, no matter what I have to stop it!”
-
Hey Jen and Holden, you guys should react to “ superhero movie”. If u haven’t watched it, it’s one of the greatest movies of all time. A lot of other superhero movies take inspiration from this film and honestly it should’ve gotten an award
-
I think once Logan went back in time and changed even the smallest thing everything could change from small and insignificant all the way up to gigantic world shifting changes. THERE IS NO EXPLANATION OTHER THAN TIME TRAVEL. I think putting every little detail under a microscope is a silly thing to do because everything can be answered with it being a result of time travel. If you just take it at face value and enjoy the movie for what it is and don’t think critically about it…it isnt that serious. But I do understand how one would have issues with this movie though. But I think that is just going into detail way too much.
-
This film (and franchise, frankly) is very easy to poke plotholes through, but emotionally, it’s fantastic, and that’s why this film is so good.
-
Unfortunately, they made Quicksilver too powerful. There’s really no problem that having Quicksilver won’t solve.
-
I always assumed Xavier looks the same because he’s the most powerful telepath in the world and can simply… make you see him however he wants…
-
Its implied the mutant cure wasn’t permanent because Rogue also has her powers back in this film.
-
Also.
-
Through commentary and my own musings, I always assumed the JFK line never meant “mutant” but instead it was up for interpretation. The idea being he was one of them because he helped the civil rights movement. Magneto would vibe with that.
-
100% agree I absolutely love this movie it is the most like the X-Men that I know. I agree Rebecca is way better. Also I know this isn’t the intentions but I personally look at these newer movies as individual movies and don’t think too much about how they all connect.
-
Magneto’s ability has been defined as the ability to generate and manipulate magnetic fields. As such he can only manipulate ferrous metals, or indirectly non-ferrous metals; provided they have high enough concentrations of ferrous ore particles alloyed within them.
-
I think the present changed so much because Magneto, Charles, and Mystique changed so much throughout the movie. and they are the biggest influences into what happens in the other movies. Mystique never became a killer so all of that is different. Magneto was rescued from jail and they change his mind at the end of the movie so all his crazy terroristic stuff in the future changes. Also Charles changes too influencing him from letting dark phoenix happen way earlier than the original timeline.
-
for me the most bizzarre thing is the fact that logan now has memories of a lifetime from 73 to the present that absolutely no-one else has. one that includes war and the death of most of the people in his life. and he is suddently dropped into a world that he DOESN’T know the current hisotry of the same time period… how absolutely super weird is that. he’s got a ton of homework to do now to catch up… so he’ll discover a history of himself that he doesn’t even know…
-
The scene with the two Charles' always makes me tear up.
-
That first comment was wrong. It is definitely the same coin, and Magneto’s powers are not literal magnetism. He can control all metals.
-
Edit: Also, Magneto getting his power back was shown at the end of the third movie when he moves the chess piece at the end.
-
Without a doubt such a freaking good movie!
-
9.5 for Me.
-
I like this movie because it was shot in my hometown of Montreal. The Paris fountain scene is a fountain next to city Hall in old Montreal. I used to pass by the studios every day on my commute. The whole white house lawn sequence is just a giant outdoor area with green screen walls. The only real prop was the stage with the ribbon. My buddy was also an extra in the Vietnam sequence. He was in fatigues walking around in the background. He made a grand just for that! Dark Pheonix was also filmed at the same studio and the I also saw the town set as well. If anything, I at least appreciate the series for employing a lot of my friends in the production!🙂
-
So wait, did they watch the Normal cut of The Wolverine or the Unrated Version with all the blood, gore, extended action sequence and story scenes added back in?
-
Also X-Men 3 literally has the first Present Day Xavier scene with him in class talking to a live feed with Moria where they mention the coma patient and how he is the twin of ‘somebody’ and dicussing the concept of transferring the mind of a dead twin into the body of brain dead coma twin. That was set up, in that film. First Class really should have mentioned the twin in some way. Would have made the sibling relationship he has with Raven better because its like he lost one sibling and now he got a chance to look after another one and that’s why he was so obsessive with not letting her go. But they didn’t think about that sadly.
-
About magneto getting his powers back, in the last stand we see him moving the metal chesspiece with his powers at the end.
-
I forgot how brutal the future sentinels were. so terrifying
-
When they where in the Maximoff house, the little girl, is not wanda, her mutant name is Polaris and has basically the same powers as magneto.
-
So in actuality when old Magneto told Wolverine “you’ll need to find my younger self too” did that really need to happen? I mean, Quicksilver was only in it for the prison break of Magneto. Magneto was responsible for dropping Mystiques blood on the scene. Magneto was the main antagonist that almost turned the country against mutants. Could Charles and Hank and Wolverine had gotten thru to Mystique without all that drama?
-
Honestly… if they had done things right with all xmen movies, and connected them correctly they could have made something as big as Avengers End Game… At least at the time they were made
-
The best X-men movie!! Perfect blend of old and new movies 🍿
-
Quicksilver doesn’t slow down time. He just moves so fast they have to slow-mo it for us to comprehend. So his music still plays in normal speed.
-
Magneto was able to use his powers a little in last stand…so the cure didn’t work like they thought it would.
-
The original X-Men trilogy didn’t happen the exact way we saw it originally, but some of those things could’ve still happened, one way or another in this new timeline.
-
I feel there are a lot of little things that were missed. It’s explained why magneto has his powers at the end of X3. There is a very quick throw away line in X3 as well about Charles brother so a bit understandable to have missed. Also, just because the sentinels didn’t happen didn’t mean ALL the events of the first 3 movies were erased. I will agree it was weird for it to be Mystique at the end but I think that was just a little Easter egg for fans at the end.
-
Magneto controls magnetic fields. He can directly affect magnetic metals, but he can physically manipulate anything by manipulating the naturally occurring magnetic fields which are everywhere.
-
The end of X3 shows Magneto in a park with metal chess pieces and he moved one a little showing the cure was imperfect or at least temporary.
-
I always assumed this was a complete reboot and that while they used the old cast the old movies didn’t essentially happen as they had. So maybe Xavier didn’t die in X3 and Magneto didn’t get “cured” but Logan still killed Jean. Stuff like that.
-
I like the movies and they are really great if you just not see them as one timeline and watch them by themselves :D
-
One of my favourite details of this movie is Logan walking through the metal detector and being surprised when it doesn’t go off
