Be a billionaire: website lets you ‘spend’ Elon Musk’s fortune
Elon Musk: The entrepreneur and founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, has become a frequent figure at the top of the list of richest people in the world. The man who wants to colonize Mars and change the energy matrix of planet Earth has actions that exceed US$ 160 billion (an absurd R$ 842 billion in conversion, considering the current price).
To play with this fortune and stimulate people’s imagination, a Reddit user created the website “Spend Elon Musk’s Fortune!” to allow “spending” the tycoon’s fortune. He took the most recent stock price of the rich man and listed a number of products and experiences that the amount of money could buy.
If the “real-life Tony Stark” sold all of his shares and got the money in his bank account, he could buy 100 private islands in Central America, which would end up with just 0.3% of his money, for example.
As an open game nerd, Musk could still spend his entire fortune on video games. If he chose the PlayStation 5, it would be possible to buy an amount of 328 million units of the console, enough to distribute one unit for every inhabitant of the United States.
The user behind the work, identified only as “Available-Resort-951”, created more than 40 options to play with the creativity of those who would like to be a billionaire. The site even guarantees the printing of a receipt with all expenses made with the money of the owner of Tesla and SpaceX.
Although the game is quite interesting, it is important to emphasize that, in practice, this kind of thing could not happen. If Musk or other billionaires like Jeff Bezos decided to sell all their shares, the market would be so impacted that the value of the US currency would be depreciated, generating a chain action that would impact the entire global economy.

It’s not surprising that the list of items includes a Tesla and the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch, two of Musk’s pet projects. However, there isn’t any Bitcoin or Dogecoin.

You can buy as many of each item as you want. Three buttons allow you to choose whether you buy one, 10, or 15 of each item. So, if you want a fleet of Teslas, go for it. Or if you want to spend it all on Nike Air Jordans, have at it. Heck, you could even buy every single person in the world at least two Big Macs or a one-month Netflix subscription for that kind of money.
When the time is up, you get your resulting “bill,” which you can share on Facebook or Twitter.

The game shows how large Musk’s fortune is The point of the game is “to demonstrate how outrageously large Musk’s net worth is,” a spokesperson for Leasing Options told CNBC. Tesla CEO Musk is ranked second on Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. His reported $179 billion fortune, which is larger than what the game offers, is second only to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s net worth of $211 billion. Leasing Options may have another motive for offering the game besides people’s amusement—the car rental company offers lease deals on a few Tesla models.
What would you buy with Elon Musk’s $164B fortune?
By
Elon Musk’s massive (roughly) $164,000,000,000 fortune makes him one of the richest people in the world. Despite most of his funds being locked up in Tesla shares and other assets, Musk’s incredible wealth has been put into an online game where the player has complete control over what to buy with the money if stocks and assets were cashed out. The game begs the question, “What would you buy with Elon Musk’s $164 billion fortune?”
The game is simple: you have $164 billion to spend, and you have 44 options to choose from. Anything from plastic surgery, to an apartment, to an NFL franchise, to a mega yacht is available. But don’t worry about losing track of how much, or how little, of the massive fortune you’ve spent. A toolbar at the top tells you how much you have left, and what percentage of the massive net worth you have left to play around with.
Interestingly enough, the game really puts into perspective how much money Musk is truly worth. Despite his massive fortune, which grew incredibly over the past 18 months due to Tesla stock’s monumental climb on Wall Street in 2020, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, the Boring Company, and Neuralink doesn’t have much to show for it. “Possessions just weigh you down,” Musk once said, after revealing he had sold his numerous California properties.
Don’t need the cash. Devoting myself to Mars and Earth. Possession just weigh you down. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 1, 2020
Despite this, many of us can be dreamers, and use the game to imagine what possessions we’d purchase with that massive amount of money. There isn’t too much that isn’t available to you, because nothing on the list eclipses the NFL franchise cost of $3 billion. The cheapest item is a Nintendo Switch, starting at just $299.
The designer of the game, who is listed as “nino” at the bottom-most portion of the page, gave a little shoutout to Tesla in the game too. While there are seven available automobiles for purchase in the game, the most notable is definitely the Tesla Model S Plaid, the revamped version of the automaker’s flagship sedan. The vehicle was recently delivered for the first time at the Fremont Factory in Northern California on June 10th, and it is the fastest production vehicle in the world.
I bought every NFL franchise, all 32 of them, and still had $68 billion left to play around with. I added one Mega Yacht, priced at $300 million, a Gulfstream Jet (just like Elon has), an LA Mansion so I could bump elbows with Leo DiCaprio while picking up the morning paper, and five Model S Plaids, one for every day of the week. I still have 41.3% of the fortune remaining, but I will likely hold onto it for a rainy day.
