Eriswell Challenge: Lee Takes Third Title In Four Weeks
Joe Lee continued his fine form with a second victory in three weeks, thanks to a win at the Eriswell Challenge at St. George’s Hill this weekend.
Only those currently residing in the United Kingdom were permitted to enter the Challenger 10 level tournament, which took place at the same venue that hosts the Channel VAS Championships on the PSA World Tour.
Lee, who claimed the Bexley Open at the end of June, along with a win at the Stellar New Malden Squash Festival, was unseeded for the event, and downed four seeded players to take the win.
He started with a 3-0 victory over No.7 seed Curtis Malik, before taking out top seed, and World No.74, Portugal’s Rui Soares, in a four-game contest in the quarter-finals. Lee then took down No.8 seed Tom Walsh to make it into the final.
The Englishman came up against No.4 seed Rory Stewart in the final, and found himself behind, before winning the second and third to go 2-1. It went to a decider with the Scotsman fighting back, but Lee was able to secure the win, making it three titles in four weeks.
